About Don't Lose Me!

Katie’s paper bead art, part of her Don’t Lose Me! Project, is a continuation of what others before her have done, making beads from scrap paper, strung on a bit of string, with a bead here and there. All of her collections employ left-over and loose bits collected from flea markets, fabric stores and junk drawers, and her beads will, sadly, biodegrade some day when you toss them in the compost heap.

From a big family in Nevada, Katie has been ever the writer, not the artist, in a family of gifted painters, seamstresses, musicians and cooks; this has been her first encounter with the joy of exploration. And because Don’t Lose Me! is not an exercise in perfection, the pieces Katie crafts tell their own story, each slightly different from the one before, asymmetrical and imperfect just as we are.
